Alan is Principal Scientist at LGC Ltd and Head of Knowledge Exchange and Development. He has held various positions Leading their Pharmaceutical and Chemical Analysis teams, working ongovernment funded projects in support of LGC’s Government Chemists program and helping to support business development in a number of countries including China, India and more recently Pakistan. He joined LGC in 1998 after spending more than 30 years working for ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) managing various corporate analytical operations and leading ICI’s HPLC Analytical Chemists Committee and the companies Corporate Separation Science Group.

Alan is, a Fellow of the RoyalSociety of Chemistry, former President of the RSC Analytical Division and Chairman of theAnalytical Methods Committee; he was awarded the RSC Distinguished Service Award in2008 for contributions to UK Analytical Chemistry by a non-academic. He is Honorary Member of the Chromatographic Society of India;Honorary Lecturer at the University of Bangor and visiting lecturer at ManchesterMetropolitan University has held similar positions at Royal Holloway University of London,and the University of Salford. A member of the MRC-NIHR Industrial Liaison Committee ofThe National Phenome Centre at Imperial College and a member of the Molecular AnalyticalScience (MAS) Centre for Doctoral Training, External Advisory Committee at the University of Warwick and is currently helping in the development of CAMS UK ( Community for Analytical Measurement Science).

Alan is the author of a number of books and was Series Editor for CRC’s “Analytical Chemistry” Series and a book reviewer for Wiley. He has authored papers and patents on HPLC, GC,SEC/GPC, SFC and Sample preparation .
