International Reid Bioanalytical Forum (REID) Open Mentoring Program

The International Reid Bioanalytical Forum (Reid) first met in 1975, organised by the late Eric Reid, then Director of the Wolfson Bioanalytical Unit at the University of Surrey.

Every 2 years Reid hosts a supportive environment for bioanalytical practitioners across all stages of their careers, where presentations and discussions on cutting edge bioanalytical science are shared, in an inclusive and congenial setting.

We’re excited to announce that, in line with Reid’s core values of building and supporting a dynamic, ever-evolving Bioanalytical community, we’ve launched a collaborative mentoring program open to all Reid members!

Mentoring provides the perfect platform for sharing knowledge and experiences, with numerous benefits for mentee, mentor, and their respective organisations. By fostering strong professional connections, we aim to help build careers and create a culture of mentorship within our community.

Sounds great – how does it work?

Who?

Mentors
All accomplished Scientists within the REID community who bring knowledge, experience, insights and open mind to support Mentees in their career development are invited to enrol.

Mentees
Participants may be at any stage in their career and in any function but must be interested in developing a career within the field of Bioanalysis with the desire to develop specific scientific skills and/or achieve professional goals outside of the laboratory.

Mentoring relationships will consist of a pairing of 1 mentor and 1 mentee. REID endeavour to make the best possible mentorship matches.

What?

The best mentoring relationships are built on trust, communication, and mutual respect.

Mentee
The Mentee have a clear goal in mind for what they would like the Mentor to assist them with. For example, this may be a specific scientific skill you want guidance in developing or professional goals outside of the laboratory. You must bring an open mind and receptive listening skills.

Mentor
Mentors are encouraged not to simply ‘advise’ the Mentee, but to guide and encourage independent thought and decision making to help them in achieving their goals.

The Mentor and Mentee will work in adherence with REID’s Ethical Guidelines for Mentoring Relationship

Further guidance and support will be provided by REID throughout the program.

When?

Program enrolment will begin in March 2025 and we will communicate the mentor-mentee pairings at the official Program launch at REID 2025 conference in September 2025.

The formal mentor relationships are intended to last for 6 months but may be extended depending on individual needs.

Where?

Following pairing and initial introductions in September 2025 (either in-person at REID 2025, or remotely) the Mentor and Mentee will arrange a meeting schedule to best suit them. To be successful, mentoring relationships require a commitment from both parties from the outset to meet regularly. Virtual meetings are encouraged.

Further guidance and support will be provided by REID throughout the program.
