Jubilee Medal winner

Bo Zhang | Xiamen University, China

The Silver Jubilee Medal was created in 1982 to mark the 25th anniversary of The Chromatographic Society, with the intention of recognising up-and-coming separation scientists who have made major use of separation science in their own field or have made important contributions to a particular area of separation science.

Professor Bo Zhang joined Xiamen University as an Associate Professor in 2009. His research is primarily oriented towards fundamental chromatography and hyphenation to MS. In particular, it focuses on the development of novel separation media, column technology, microfluidic devices and proteomics analysis.
He has published almost 100 peer-reviewed publications (1,000 citations) and 10 patents. His research is well cited, and he has an h-index of 20. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) in 2024, recognising his significant contributions to separation science.

Outside of research, he is widely involved in teaching and education activities, such as sitting on editorial boards (Journal of Chromatography A, Journal of Separation Science, Analytical Science Advances), giving seminars and speaking at international conferences (for example ISC2024, HPLC2025) and has served on the organising committee of many local and international conferences (recently HPLC2025 Bruges).

He has actively promoted international research exchange by supporting and supervising PhD students in extended research placements at leading European universities and research institutes, helping to bridge the gap between the European and Chinese chromatography communities.

Professor Zhang is the very definition of a rising star in chromatography and the ChromSoc is thrilled to name him the 2026 Silver Jubilee Medal winner.
